Man, is there anything worse than being a hypocrite? Anything worse than telling people to do one thing and then doing another?
Yeah, there is.
I will tell you all about following your passion, and doing your weekly reviews, and keeping your inbox flowing, and speaking your truth. And then I myself will fail. I will put off my reviews for three weeks, fill up my inbox, and not post to the blog for months. And I will not apologize.
Seems to me when you know what’s best, and you know you’re failing, you’ve got two obvious choices:
- Dumb down your expectations, or
- Feel guilty about not meeting them.
Or the middle way: do neither. Be a hypocrite.
Hypocrites get to:
- Change their minds
- Be wrong
- Make mistakes
- Speak the truth
So if it’s all the same, I’ll stick with hypocrisy. And then do my damnedest to take my own advice.
